The ONS October release describes the UK labour market as broadly flat in 2026. Payrolled employment fell over the latest quarter, while vacancies also fell. National figures cannot tell you how quickly you will find your next role.
If you need your salary, there is nothing embarrassing about staying while you make a plan. Update your CV, check what comparable roles ask for and keep a record of the work you are already doing well.
If you want a pay conversation first, bring evidence of your contribution rather than relying on headlines about the economy. If the money side feels tight, MoneyHelper offers free guidance.
